We Are Readers
We Are Readers is the title of our upcoming reading unit. In kindergarten, students make the transition from learning letters and sounds to putting those sounds together to make words they can read. That and learning sight words (words you can't always sound out but need to know to make reading fluid) help students become more eager and productive readers.
Each day students read for 20 minutes on their own. They aren't able to do that just yet, but we are building our reading stamina each day.
In addition, we are reading with older students, Reading Buddies. This will give students the opportunity to watch older readers and listen to how stronger readers sound. Our Reading Buddies are in second grade and are so wonderful. It was so nice to watch them interact.
